Transition Town Totnes


Overview

Transition Town Totnes (TTT) is a dynamic umbrella organisation consisting of different theme groups, for example food, building and housing, business and the local economy, and with over 20 local projects, originating from these groups or who have become affiliated with TTT due to common aims and principles.

Our work aims to:

1 – explore and develop practical actions that will reduce our carbon emissions and dependence on fossil fuels, and through doing this:

2 – strengthen the resilience of the communities that make up Totnes and District to withstand the shocks of peak oil, climate change and economic crisis.

Our charitable objectives

The promotion of the conservation, protection and improvement of the natural environment and prudent use of natural resources for the benefit of the public in Totnes and environs by:

–      Advancing education and raising awareness of climate change, resource scarcity, peak oil and economic resilience.

–      Promoting individual, community and organisational commitment to a reduction in CO2 emissions, energy saving, reducing reliance upon carbon emitting energy sources, and increasing resilience to resource scarcity.

– The promotion of sustainable development for the public benefit of the citizens of Totnes and environs by the promotion of sustainable means of achieving economic development and regeneration in order to reduce reliance on scarce resources including oil.

Totnes Book Shop

The Totnes Bookshop is an independent bookstore in the centre of the beautiful, historic town of Totnes. They stock an extensive range of books for both adults and children and you will find books suitable for everyone. Their friendly and knowledgeable staff can help you with all your enquiries. Mondays to Saturdays, 9.30am to 5.30pm and Sundays & Bank Holidays, 10am to 4pm

the bowie gallery

the bowie gallery is a well-established art gallery in Totnes, having shown a good range of contemporary art since 2008. Situated in the High street, a stone’s throw from the market place, you will find paintings, sculpture, ceramics and jewellery, mostly from artists who have a strong connection with the South West, as well as often national and international profiles. These include Michael Honnor, Lucianne Lassalle, Thorie Hinds, James Stewart, Rosie Sanders and Sarah Gillespie. The gallery also shows a collection of chairs, under the banner arseart! www.arseart.com. Most works are available to purchase under the arts council supported OWNart scheme – interest-free over 10 months. Open TUESDAY – SATURDAY 10-4 and Mondays by appointment, this little gallery is well worth a visit. In May 2017 see us at FRESH ART FAIR at Cheltenham Racecourse

The Totnes Wine Company

They stock an extensive and unique range of wines plus spirits and locally produced craft ales.

They are the only shop in Totnes to stock the full range from local producer, Sharpham Wines. The wines make the perfect souvenir to remember your stay.
