Transition Town Totnes


Overview

Transition Town Totnes (TTT) is a dynamic umbrella organisation consisting of different theme groups, for example food, building and housing, business and the local economy, and with over 20 local projects, originating from these groups or who have become affiliated with TTT due to common aims and principles.

Our work aims to:

1 – explore and develop practical actions that will reduce our carbon emissions and dependence on fossil fuels, and through doing this:

2 – strengthen the resilience of the communities that make up Totnes and District to withstand the shocks of peak oil, climate change and economic crisis.

Our charitable objectives

The promotion of the conservation, protection and improvement of the natural environment and prudent use of natural resources for the benefit of the public in Totnes and environs by:

–      Advancing education and raising awareness of climate change, resource scarcity, peak oil and economic resilience.

–      Promoting individual, community and organisational commitment to a reduction in CO2 emissions, energy saving, reducing reliance upon carbon emitting energy sources, and increasing resilience to resource scarcity.

– The promotion of sustainable development for the public benefit of the citizens of Totnes and environs by the promotion of sustainable means of achieving economic development and regeneration in order to reduce reliance on scarce resources including oil.

Totnes Book Shop

The Totnes Bookshop is an independent bookstore in the centre of the beautiful, historic town of Totnes. They stock an extensive range of books for both adults and children and you will find books suitable for everyone. Their friendly and knowledgeable staff can help you with all your enquiries. Town Market

The independent shops and markets in Totnes are pivotal to the town and have a reputation as some of the best and most unusual in Devon. The general market takes place on Friday and Saturday throughout the year and is held on the Civic Square, just off High Street in the centre of the town. Here you can buy anything from vintage boxes to fresh fi sh from a fishmonger. A collectables and flea market also takes place in the Civic Hall, above the Square, on Fridays. The early bird bags the best market bargains! Seed, food and clothes ‘swap’ events can also take place. One of the best places to try the delicious delights of what Totnes and the surrounding area has to offer is at the Totnes Good Food Sunday Market. Held on the 3rd Sunday of each month throughout the year, this award winning market has a reputation for offering a wide range of quality produce from dozens of local producers.
