Cultural Strategy Document PDF

Overview

The purpose of this cultural strategy document is for Totnes to define its relationship with Arts, Heritage, and Culture and position these ideas in ways that fit comfortably with where we are now, taking into account the town’s past, present, and future. Regarding austerity for example, and given funding limitations and shortage, it is vital to channel available funds whatever their size/economic value specifically into strategic and targeted projects; the underlying aims and motivations of which could be reflected in this document.

Ben’s Farm Shop

Originally conceived over 35 years ago, when Ben himself sold his homemade sausages at Totnes Market, Ben’s Farm Shops focus on providing ‘good food from good farming’. In practical terms, that means that the produce we sell in our shops and the food we serve in our cafés is sourced directly from the producers/growers, is as local as possible, often organic and always just plain delicious. We stock a range of store cupboard essentials, meat from our butchery, a selection of fruit and veg, dairy products, wines, beers and much more. What better excuse do you need to step away from the supermarket trolley and shop local! Sharpham Vineyard & Cheese Dairy

Classic English wines are produced at Sharpham vineyard as a result of a happy marriage of soil, climate and grape variety known as terroir, and nature has bestowed her gifts freely upon us here at Sharpham. In the winery, we employ both New World and traditional techniques to best develop our unique regional characteristics. Our tally of International Awards confirms our position as one of England's foremost quality wine producers. We invite you to visit, sample, and make up your own minds about our fine English wine. Quality, taste and excellence are the enduring hallmarks of our award-winning range of English cheeses. We combine meticulous attention to hygiene with traditional methods including cutting, moulding and turning, all performed entirely by hand. Our cheese dairy provides you with the chance to look in on the making areas and follow the process from start to finish.

the bowie gallery

the bowie gallery is a well-established art gallery in Totnes, having shown a good range of contemporary art since 2008. Situated in the High street, a stone’s throw from the market place, you will find paintings, sculpture, ceramics and jewellery, mostly from artists who have a strong connection with the South West, as well as often national and international profiles. These include Michael Honnor, Lucianne Lassalle, Thorie Hinds, James Stewart, Rosie Sanders and Sarah Gillespie. The gallery also shows a collection of chairs, under the banner arseart! www.arseart.com. Most works are available to purchase under the arts council supported OWNart scheme – interest-free over 10 months. Open TUESDAY – SATURDAY 10-4 and Mondays by appointment, this little gallery is well worth a visit.
