Sandwell Farmhouse Retreat –
Extraordinary Ordinary in the Heart of Devon

“Extraordinary ordinary” is how one guest recently described her stay at Sandwell Farmhouse Retreat and it’s easy to see why.

Kate and Trevor Harris have created an extraordinarily nurturing, peaceful environment that is both a luxury retreat and comfortable family home in the green heart of South Devon. To complement this unique setting, guests can enjoy an individualised retreat combining:

• Relaxation in the beautiful indoor pool, Jacuzzi and sauna
• Freshly made super juices, soups and salads
• Meditation and life coaching
• A choice of treatments that can be booked in advance (at an additional cost)
• Peaceful, unhurried downtime to relax, reflect and reboot
• Nourishment and nurture from a qualified juice therapist and life coach
• The choice to spend time alone or as part of a loving family (complete with dog!)
• Safe, delicious juice detoxes freshly made by a qualified juice therapist
• Recipes and healthy eating advice
• Rebounding

Sandwell Farmhouse Retreat is one of Totnes’ hidden gems, situated just a few miles from the historic town centre yet in the heart of the countryside. Those who are unfamiliar with Devon’s narrow lanes might be reassured to learn that it is accessible entirely via main roads and straightforward to find! Kate is also keen to stress to would-be visitors that, despite the name ‘retreat”, there is no punishing health or fitness agenda here. Although the focus is on wellbeing and nourishment, the context for this is one of self-acceptance and nurturing self-care rather than punishing exercise regimes or perfectionism. “We’re about pragmatism not perfectionism, peacefulness not punishment” says Kate.

As well as personalised retreats, Sandwell Farmhouse also offers friendly B&B and Airbnb accommodation between retreats. There are two en suite bedrooms and a freshly made juice , cereal/toast/coffee are included for breakfast. Kate is happy to offer advice on places to visit in this beautiful part of South Devon and can organise treatments at an additional cost.

Private Spa Day experiences are available for groups of 4 or more, booked in advance only and include: fresh juice, meditation, pool, Jacuzzi, sauna, healthy raw cake and tea.

“Kate and Trevor, the only way I can think to describe my experience of staying with you at Sandwell Farmhouse is that it was “extraordinary ordinary”. I arrived feeling frazzled and thoroughly world-weary. Throughout my stay, I felt safe and deeply nurtured. I will never forget my evening swim in your beautiful pool, alone with darkness falling and beautiful music playing. It was like pressing the reset button. Thank you from the bottom of my heart for giving me the space to just “be” in the heart of your family home but with the solitary space I needed to reflect. Thanks too for nurturing me with love, care and nourishing juice and food. It was just what I needed.”
Kate Philbin, Wellbeing Editor Reconnect Magazine

“Today is one week since returning from my 5 day juice detox & life coaching with the lovely Kate, who opened & shared her beautiful home with me. Thank you so much.
Last week I stopped the world & got off for a few days. In fact I feel like I visited an alternative universe (can I stay with you forever?).
For me a complete novice & die hard cynic, it’s been a revelation. You really must try it. Leave any cynicism at home & let go, it’s all so calm & peaceful.
For those who want to kick start weight loss (my main reason to visit) I lost 6lbs it would have probably been more if I was able to exercise. I’ve lost a further 3.5lbs in the second week at home. But most importantly I’ve regained my equilibrium. Many thanks Kate. See you soon.” Gaye Stewart July 2017

Airbnb: “ Loved our stay here beautiful home, feels all relaxed, quiet and secluded but near enough to Totnes when want to head out. Such a comfy room – had a mega sleep 🙂 Great hosts – Kate and Trevor were lovely – and great brekkie Thanks so much! See you again soon x” Katherine September 2017
