During this 1.5 to 2 hour workshop from 7 – 9 pm you will make your own curved tealight panel which we’ll fire for you overnight, ready for collection the next day. Whether you already work in glass, or are a complete novice, Steve will tailor your tuition accordingly.

Come and join Father Christmas for an enchanting experience at the South Devon Railway this Christmas. Admire our wonderfully traditionally decorated carriages and stations as you take a warm and cosy journey to Totnes behind one of our majestic steam locomotives. Enjoy festive refreshments in your seat as the beautiful Devon countryside passes by the window and visit Father Christmas in his Grotto carriage with a gift for every child. For the ultimate magical experience why not travel on one of our evening trains and soak up the wonderful ambience of our beautifully lit carriages and stations. Advance Booking Essential Santa Times Our Santa by Steam departure times for 2019 are: 11:30 am 1:45 pm 4:00 pm 6:00 pm We advise that you arrive no later than 15 minutes before your booked departure time to allow time to book in and board the train. Your Experience Your experience starts in our cosy check-in marquee at Buckfastleigh Station, where you can briefly wait in the warm as Father Christmas’ elves prepare your train. Once Father Christmas gives the green light you will be taken through to board the train; our helpers will be there to guide you to your reserved seats. Once you have found your seats, be sure to keep a look out for the Guard; when everyone is on board he will walk along the platform checking that everyone is “all aboard”. As we set off, the engine will whistle and we’ll be on our way to Totnes Riverside behind one of our majestic steam locomotives. As we depart don’t forget to wave to the Station Master! During your journey you will be travelling in our beautifully decorated, warm and cosy, heritage coaches. You can sit back and enjoy the views as the complimentary refreshments are served to you at your seat. Each passenger will receive either a hot chocolate or fruit juice as well as a biscuit or mince pie. Everyone will get to visit Father Christmas in his wonderful Grotto Carriage, with children receiving a gift, before our return to Buckfastleigh. On arrival at Totnes station, with its’ traditional Christmas decorations, our steam locomotive will run around the carriages ready to take us back; we will have about 10 minutes before we depart again for Buckfastleigh.

Totnes Christmas Festival

Indulge this Christmas and experience Totnes at its finest on Tuesday evenings in December. South Devon’s most famed late night shopping event, now called Totnes Christmas Festival, will run from 3-9pm on 3, 10 and 17 December. Up through the Medieval High Street’s magnificent variety of shops intermingled with delightful craft vendors and delicious food and mulled wine stalls.  Buskers and carol singers will relax you into the Christmas shopping mood while the cafés and bars are open tempting you in with seasonal sparkle! There will be approximately 50-60 stalls in the main street and the Civic Square. There will also be two stages hosting live entertainment on all three nights; one will be in the Market Square and one in the Rotherfold. A free park and ride bus will be operating into town from Follaton House and coach parking is available at the Steamer Quay Car Park.  Located at the very top of the High Street through the unique Narrows, the Rotherfold will be featuring the second stage, an open mic stage available for anyone who wishes to show off their talents. Nestled amongst softly lit trees, artisanal traders and the highest quality hot food traders, The Rotherfold is the hidden gem of the Totnes Christmas Festival absolutely not to be missed.  The unique and diverse Totnes Christmas Festival, packed with an atmospheric and seasonal variety of traders, will feature bands, dancers and young local talents from the community. The Great Totnes Map Competition 2019

There are three competition age group categories: 7-11, 12-16, 17+.  There are also three topic categories in which to compete. See below for details. ​ The competition opens on 17 October 2019 and closes 20 November 2019. Winners will be announced on 30 November 2019. Presentation of awards will take place on Tuesday 3 December 2019 at the Totnes Christmas Festival. ​ Prizes are: 17+ Winners – £100 for each of the three categories of competition 12-16 Winners – £100 for each of the three categories of competition 7-11 Winners – £ 50 for each of the three categories of competition Runner up prizes will also be awarded. The value of the awards will be announced as soon as they are established. The topic categories are: Fantastical Totnes, Historical Totnes and Future Totnes. ​ You will need a submission form in order to enter the competition. Alternately you can pick one up from PAPERWORKS, 63 High St, Totnes TQ9 5PB or the Guildhall office, 5 Ramparts Walk, Totnes TQ9 5QH (Open Mon-Fri, 10am-4pm). ​ We suggest a donation of £1 when you submit your artwork. This will benefit the St Mary's Heritage Trust Restoration Fund. If you submit actual physical artwork it can be in any media and any size, 2D or 3D. All we ask is that it relates to Totnes. Your map may include the whole of the town or perhaps just a small part. If you submit your artwork as a digital file you will still need to fill out an entry form  and make your £1 donation at PAPERWORKS or the Guildhall office before your work can be officially considered.
