Verdi’s Requiem

Dartington Community Choir with the Dartington Sinfonietta, conductor Simon Dunbavand presents Verdi’s dramatic Requiem. Verdi’s operatic Requiem was composed in memory of the Italian poet and novelist Alessandro Manzoni, who was profoundly admired by Verdi, and it was first performed on 22 May 1874, on the first anniversary of Manzoni’s death. Papagena Concert

The concert is entitled Love, Legends and Lullabies and will include a cappella music ranging from medieval to folk, classical to contemporary. Papagena is the UK’s flagship professional female voice ensemble, has appeared several times on BBC Radio 3 and 4, has three hugely acclaimed albums to its name and has performed throughout the UK at major festivals including Edinburgh and the Three Choirs. The concert is on the 28th April 2024 at 3pm, St Mary's Church, Totnes. Tickets cost £10 (under 16s go free) and will be available on the door or in advance from www.wegottickets.com

Spindle Ensemble + Fran & Flora

On the 10th May Hidden Notes Records present a special double bill featuring two of the UK's leading contemporary chamber acts at the beautiful St Mary’s Church on Totnes High Street. Neo-impressionist chamber quartet ‘Spindle Ensemble’ and experimental violin and cello Klezma duo ‘Fran & Flora” are both critically acclaimed acts with a reputation for stunning virtuosic live sets which have wowed audiences in the UK, Europe and America. Both acts are part of the Hidden Notes Records (an independent record label founded by Hidden Notes Festival) artist roster and will be performing together for the first time at this special event. Forage for Food & Medicine May

Discover the amazing world of plants and nature through foraging for wild herbal medicine and food with Brigit Anna McNeill. Take an in-depth look at wild seasonal plants and herbs growing in the breath-taking grounds of the Sharpham Estate. Learn the folklore, stories and insights that each wild plant holds, and find out their fascinating uses, along with how to gather and identify safely. "It was amazing, learnt so much! Cannot wait to put what I learnt into practice. Brigit has so much knowledge it and shares it in a fun, digestible way.This day will help you to reconnect to nature and see with new eyes as you taste, touch and begin to understand the uses of the plants that are all around you. This 1-day course allows you time to connect with the land, meet and harvest wild herbs and make a seasonal wild medicine or food to take home with you, or both. This event costs £55 per person for the day and is suitable for adults aged 16 and over. 

The day runs from 10am to 4.30pm.
