This year there will be at least 27 sets of shanty singing groups attending, coming from all over the UK as well as overseas. Also performing are Teignmouth’s very own Sea Shanty singing group, the Back Beach Boyz.
The 2018 festival was a huge success, filling the towns of Teignmouth and Shaldon with crowds of supporters, raising the profile of Shanties and the River Teign community, as well as raising £2,000 for charity.
Workshops where people can learn more about the origins of shanties.  This year we are also including a maritime experiences theme with: Maritime Figurehead Carver, Knot Tyers, Wooden Boat Builder, Canvas Sailmaker, Traditional Flag Maker, Willow Lobster/Crab Pot Weaver, the Icelandic Adventures of Pike Ward, the Jurassic Coast Poet-in-Residence and a Maritime Storyteller.

SHAF – South Hams Arts Trail

As diverse as the artistic talents of SHAF members are the ways in which SHAF artists work and where they choose to exhibit their work. Some artists work on their kitchen tables, others in purpose-built studios; some work alone, others in an artists’ collective. So visitors to SHAF Arts Trail venues will find some artists exhibiting in their homes and studios, others in galleries, exhibition halls, and even pubs! Following the Arts Trail also provides a wonderful opportunity to explore the glorious South Hams and discover places (including cream tea venues) you never knew existed.

South Devon Rail Macmillan Coffee Morning

South Devon Railway volunteer workers at idyllic Staverton Station, many of whom are also members of the Staverton Preservation Group (SPG), are once again hosting a fund-raising event in aid of Macmillan Cancer Support on Friday 27 September in the railway station's very own buffet coach from 10.30 am until 3.30 pm. The event is part of Macmillan's 'World's Biggest Coffee Morning' and there will be hot and cold drinks plus home-made savories and cakes on offer in the coach, with all monies raised by SPG being donated to Macmillan Cancer Care. The station buffet coach has plenty of seats inside but, in the event the sun does not shine extra covered seating will be provided outside. Visitors can travel to the event either by SDR steam trains or by car and use the station car park in front of the station, or in some of the allocated spaces at Diverde's highways maintenance premises (formerly Kevin Thulborn's yard) nearby.
