Totnes Fiver Fest

Event Date:

From 5th October

Until 12th October

If every adult in Totnes and Bridgetown spent just £5 a week in our independent shops and businesses instead of at supermarkets or online it would be worth approximately £1.6 million per year to the local economy.

Totnes is joining the national Totally Locally Fiver Fest to raise awareness of this message and encourage more people to shop locally.

Visit us for our first Fiver Fest from 5th – 12th October and pick up a special treat for only £5 from a wide selection of independent retailers and cafes – but please support them this week and every week!

Society of Strange and Ancient Instruments: The Longest Night

In Norway, the Lussinatten festival celebrates the longest night of the year. Legend has it that Lussi, a feared enchantress, punishes anyone who dares to work and, from Lussinatten until Christmas, spirits, gnomes and trolls roam the earth. Celebrate The Longest Night with devilish tunes, ancient Norwegian and English folk carols and other festive musical treats!
Award-winning Norwegian Hardanger fiddle player and singer, Benedicte Maurseth, SSAI’s director, Clare Salaman and harpist Jean Kelly, play hardanger fiddles, Swedish nyckelharpa, and clarsach (celtic harp). Their collaboration has resulted in a enchanting repertoire of songs, dances and instrumental pieces from Purcell and Playford to traditional Norwegian Hardanger fiddle tunes and ancient songs.
Advance tickets £13 (under 18s £5) available from the  Dartington Box Office (01803 847070).
Box Office opening hours 1pm - 7pm.
Tickets on the door £14/£5.

Devon Open Studios

Devon Open Studios is a unique opportunity to meet artists in their studios in some of the most beautiful, unexplored parts of Devon. In addition to being able to buy art direct from the creator, many demonstrate, give talks or give you a chance to have a go. A cornucopia of art is on offer across Devon when over 200 resident artists and crafts people open their studios to show and sell their individual artworks to the public each September including areas around Totnes. The diversity of studios is remarkable; as here you can explore venues ranging from potter’s studios in meadows to medieval barns, sinuous sculpture gardens or garrets by the sea. These hidden havens reveal fascinating work in every medium that allows the opportunity to purchase affordable art, directly from the artist, and without gallery commission. Venture out on self-guided art tours using our free full colour event guide or just by spontaneously following the yellow arrows scattered about the countryside. Meet the artists, participate in workshops and events, or simply create your own journey of discovery in this most spectacular landscape. The event guide is available from the beginning of August in Devon Libraries, the Totnes TIC at Civic Square and arts and community venues across the county.
