Totnes Early Music Society – Syrinx

Blast from the Past - From the 14th-18th century, wind music could be heard everywhere from grand state occasions to the humblest village dance. Syrinx recreate this impressive tradition playing shawms, dulcians, oboes and bassoons: their repertoire covers the rise of the professional wind band, with music from early anonymous masters, Dufay and Morley through to Handel and Telemann. Syrinx received critical acclaim for their first album, The Saxon Alternative. Members of the group play with leading period orchestras including the Academy of Ancient Music, The Orchestra of the Age of enlightenment, and the Akademie für Alte Musik Berlin, and in ensembles such as I Fagiolini, Mediva, Blondel and Concentus VII. The concert starts at 7.30pm at St. Mary's Church in Totnes. Advance tickets available from the Dartington Box Office (01803 847070), and website (boxoffice@dartington.org) £13, under 18s £5. On the door £14/£5.

SHAF – South Hams Arts Trail

As diverse as the artistic talents of SHAF members are the ways in which SHAF artists work and where they choose to exhibit their work. Some artists work on their kitchen tables, others in purpose-built studios; some work alone, others in an artists’ collective. So visitors to SHAF Arts Trail venues will find some artists exhibiting in their homes and studios, others in galleries, exhibition halls, and even pubs! Following the Arts Trail also provides a wonderful opportunity to explore the glorious South Hams and discover places (including cream tea venues) you never knew existed.
