The Area:
Totnes is an ancient market town built around the River Dart in the South Hams – an area of Outstanding Natural Beauty situated between Exeter and Plymouth in South Devon. Totnes has a long recorded history, dating back to AD 907 when its first castle was built; it was already an important market town by the 12th century. Indications of its former wealth and importance are given by the number of merchants’ houses built in the 16th and 17th centuries. Today, the town is a thriving centre for music, art, theatre and natural health.

The South Hams, with its famous seaside towns like Salcombe, Brixham and Dartmouth, has a strong rural and maritime heritage, and is noted for its quality local food, restaurants, culture and wonderful landscapes. A popular holiday destination, the South Hams has something for everyone. There are historic castles, stately homes, sandy beaches, sailing trips, country walks, adventure parks and Dartmoor National Park- and they’re all right on our doorstep!

The local area includes:
• Ancient Market Town of Totnes
• Beautiful beaches of Slapton Sands, Blackpool Sands and Bigbury Bay
• Rugged Devon Coastline
• Fantastic local restaurants and tea rooms
• Dartmoor National Park
• Totnes and Berry Pomeroy Castle
